Questions about The Ginger People Gin Gins Original Chewy Ginger Candy 3 Oz (pack of 2)
Q:
I bought some of these"chews" for the first time and they are not chewy at all. They are quite firm- almost tough. Is this how they're supposed to be?
Answer: Yep, rubbery. There are ginger hard candies, but they don't qualify as "quite firm." I suppose these chews are initially "tough." But that's what makes them chewy. If you want something that's immediately soft, there are ginger jellies and spice drops. Try "The Ginger People Gin Gins Ginger Spice Drops."
Answer: I have bought them several times in various packaging and I think they have always been very firm. Actually, that's kind of why I like them. I think they are supposed to be this way. :-) I typically don't chew them but rather hold them in my mouth til they soften up some!
Answer: The softer chewy product is called "Ginger Chews".
Answer: These get stuck in my teeth so I cannot chew them
Answer: The ones I have bought have been chewy. Not certain why yours would not have been. I really like them.
Answer: They seem hard until you bite in to them. After that, I find them quite chewy!
Answer: yes, they are firm .I love them and eat a few almost every day, have to be careful though once eating they are taffy like and will pull out all the fillings in your teeth. I crave them
Answer: Not hard, not so soft, so the next word is chewy, so just suck on it and roll it around in your mouth. Shape it with your tongue as it gets softer and smaller.
Answer: Mine were a hard, chewy, get stuck in your teeth hard.
Answer: Then also make them in hard candy

Q:
the taste of my recent order is very different than what I get in the store. It's sulferous--like molasses. Did the recipe change, or is it a bad shipment?
Answer: Have not found this...fortunately! But 7/2016 they are less ginger-y and actually to chewy. Liked the old formula. Sad...
Answer: ginger people gin gins are so good I am addicted to them , taste varies but are somewhat spicy, I did find another brand called reeds ginger candy chews which is slightly cheaper at a health food store near me, they are both made by the same company in Indonesia, I do do find the flavor varies all that much from batch to batch, got to watch out though they can pull your fillings out from your teeth. ha ha
Answer: I have never had one that is sulferous, but i have had some that are soft and some that are hard. I have only recently bought them. The ones I got from amazon where softer than the ones I just got from Whole Foods. I like both. Sulphur could be used as a perservative.
Answer: Hmm...not sure, but I would guess a bad shipment.
Q:
Re: gin gins original...I'm a first time buyer and after opening a chew I found it covered in a white patchy substance. Is this normal?
Answer: Every time I have opened one I have seen the same thing. It has no flavor...I have not felt any adverse effects from it.
Answer: Ours had the same white substance. I would assume it's on candy do it doesn't stick to the wrapper.
Answer: Yes, it's a powdered sugar so it won't stick to the wrapper
Answer: It is. all of mine were like that. At least I hope so anyway... :)
Answer: Yes
Q:

Product reviews of The Ginger People Gin Gins Original Chewy Ginger Candy 3 Oz (pack of 2)
Teagan : Gin Gin My Hero
What a wonderful discovery! Yes, I look at the ingredients and realize it's just "candy." However, these have helped my horridly persistent asthma/allergy cough more than any medicine. It's amazing that such a spicy taste is at once cooling to my throat. I can't say enough about how great they are.
Kate : My go-to pick me up sweet
if you're feeling travel sick, or have a cough/sore throat these ginger sweets are the perfect answer. Individually wrapped they're practical too!
Amazon Customer : Product good; accessing it difficult
The product helps with stomach and intestinal pain. However, it is very difficult to unwrap, especially when in a hurry because the pain has struck unexpectedly. I'm going to look for a comparable product that is easily accessible. This is particularly a problem for seniors with arthritis. I have to cut into it with scissors to access the product, and THEN it often adheres so tenaciously to the wrapper that is a struggle to remove it.
Rancid_Rainbow117 : Taste great, and works wonders for heartburn too!
These things are delicious! I had tried them before, but ended up buying them recently because I have horrible pregnancy related heartburn. I figured hey, if it doesn’t fix the heartburn, they still taste great so why not? Low and behold, they work wonders for heartburn too :) Highly recommended! This prego lady approves! (The only possible downside is that sometimes the candy can get stuck to the wrappers, but it’s no big deal)
katelyn reader : Sent these in a care package for a friend going ...
Sent these in a care package for a friend going through chemotherapy. They are delicious and help settle the tummy. Would definitely order again.
Argentosmom : Addictive!
These things are addictive! But so much better for you than a lot of other stuff. You wouldn't think something so spicy would help with indigestion but they definitely seem to. Just be careful not to bite them too hard as they're really sticky! These are hard to find and I'm glad I saw them here!
Kris : Like gnawing on leather
Super bummed out. I LOOOVE the Gin-Gin chews. However, these packs were extremely stale, like rip a filling out because it's so hard kind of stale.
I think I'm better off purchasing these from my local grocery store. They are much fresher.
Gin-Gin chew lovers beware!
LabLady : Tasty, but hard to chew
I like the taste of these and they seem to help a little with a queasy stomach. They tend to stick to your molars, so you may not want to put a whole one in your mouth. They’re a little hard. I have to cut them in half with scissors because I can’t easily bite off a piece. I usually need to cut the wrapper as well because the candy tends to stick to it too.
CandB M : So tasty
We purchase these Ginger candies frequently. The flavor is excellent, and also helps to settle the stomach if upset, and can soothe a sore throat. Sometimes the Amazon orders deliver an older product, and the candies are not as fresh as we would prefer, but they are still within expiration deadline.
Blame It On The Bling! : Satisfies the Sweet tooth!
This is some delicious candy. Very "gingerly." I like how it has a light coating of tapioca on the backside of it to keep from sticking. Mine was very fresh!
Robert J Parrillo : First time I got these they were amazing!!
First time I got these they were amazing!!! Then I purchased them a second time and they were melted to the inside of the wrappers. Because I love them so much, I let it slide. Ordered a third time, worse! Both packages were not usable. When I checked where all three orders came from, the first which was amazing came from one seller, the last two came from this seller. They are not storing these correctly at all!! I dislike that amazon prime switched sellers without notification. I will be more careful in the future!! For those of you who say this candy is getting stuck in your teeth, try it from another seller! They should be soft with a powdery coating!!

WnnaBsd8d : Smallish and sticks to wrapper but ok
These are a little different from the ones I got at Trader Joe's, same brand but not called Gin-Gin. They are smaller and don't have a separate wrapping that protects it from the outer wrapping it is directly touching the wrapping and the first one I opened was kind of stuck to the wrapping. It taste pretty much the same. I like the other better. Don't think they have it on Amazon.
J. Butcher : I love Gin Gins
I love these! Tasty and effective for mild to moderate nausea from stomach bugs and takes the edge off of nausea from medication side-effects, including chemo.
TRE : Great for stomach pains. Easy for travel.
Sticky due to a little melt. Great for stomachaches. Strong taste but good. Easy to take with you traveling.
Christina dority : Ginger chews
This product was pitiful. The ingredients were not mixed properly and it was spotted when little pkg is opened. It also stuck to each cover and was difficult to remove, just to eat it. It looked old and I was not given an opportunity to put up a review or how to return the product. These were poorly made to say the least. They were not worth the money and they were sticky, messy, and unbalanced in mixture. I should have gotten fresh product correctly made, as that is what I paid for.

John Buchanan : Not happy.
I've had this product before, not from amazon, and I really like them so I know what it should be like. What I got today was not good at all. It was like the product melted sometime before and was sent to me. They are not soft enough to chew, in fact hard and didn't taste quite right either. Of course I had to open and sample the product so now I can't return them. You've been warned.
Geneva : Great for your stomach
These are really wonderful for nausea. I carry them with me because one of my medications causes nausea and just one works quickly. They are a bit spicy and chewy but very effective. The best Ginger chew I have ever tried. I am not being given anything to write this positive review.
Kate : My go-to pick me up sweet
if you're feeling travel sick, or have a cough/sore throat these ginger sweets are the perfect answer. Individually wrapped they're practical too!
brenda : Very good tasting Ginger
Delicious and fresh Great Flavor. Best Ginger I've had
Amazon Customer : I use for digestion and motion sickness
I use Gin Gin’s for stomach problems or before I get in a car for motion sickness. This helps out a lot! I take them 20 minutes before I leave and I am usually pretty good to go. The taste is like any ginger candy, strong but I got use to it so it doesn’t bother me anymore. They are sticky but that’s any chewy candy you get. I started eating them before a meal knowing it would help digestion also. I would recommend these and this brand.
Angela : LOVE GIN GINS
I bought these in a casino a few months ago to help with nausea from all the cigarette smoke wafting through the gigantic building. They helped within minutes!! So I was very happy to find gin gins on Amazon! I received the 2 bags on time and no issues at all. I’m very happy with my purchase and will purchase again. Also there is supposed to be a white powdery coating on the chews to keep them from sticking to the wrapper. The ones I bought at the casino had the coating on them as well. If you’re looking for a natural way to combat tummy issues... look no further!!!
Josh : ALL MELTED! UGHHHH!
These would have been great if EVERY SINGLE PIECE wasn't melted and stuck to the wrapper!!!!!!!! Should have listened to the other reviews about this from this particular seller. He/she is clearly not storing the product properly. Will definitely not order again.
Kris : Like gnawing on leather

puppy : i’m so loyal to these
these rule i love ginger people lol. i’m nauseous all the time due to chronic illnesses and these definitely help! plus they’re yummy and versatile, i can chew them or suck on them or melt them in hot water to make tea, and since they’re individually packaged it’s easy to keep a few in my medicine bag!
John Buchanan : Not happy.

It took me a while to aquire the taste for them, but these ginger candies are amazing for nausea and upset stomach! Now I'm addicted and wish I could find them in stores more easily.

Celia : Keep from tossing your cookies with these candies!
These are sooo hard to find! Tried them once as they were sold at a gas station & I had a massive case of car sickness. If you ever feel nauseated then these are the perfect candies to keep on hand. Pregnant, car sick, sea sick...these work to keep from losing your lunch & they taste great. Especially if you enjoy the taste of ginger.
N : Excellent product with ginger
Excellent product. I think I’m going to order these again and again. My friend gave one of the gin gins and I ordered it immediately with out any hesitation.
Katinka : Great and easy, portable remedy for upset stomach
For several years I have used this ginger "candy" for a quick way to deal with upset stomach. I first discovered this when these were handed out by a ship's crew on a very stormy trip up to Canada. I was very surprised that they acted as rapidly as it did.
The nice thing about it is that they are packaged in a very sturdy wrapping such that they can be tucked into a car or a pruse and they will stay good until you need them.
Amazon_reviewer : Excellent product
I am on a cancer medication that occasionally makes me nauseous. This has helped tremendously.
L. Kirk : My favorite ginger chews
I do have a thing for ginger. I have been through Ginger Altoid, Reeds Ginger Chew, and now The Ginger People Ginger Chew phases. I still enjoy all of these products, but the Ginger People chews are my favorite of the bunch.
I prefer them to Reeds because the ginger has just a wee bit more zing to me, and the quality is a bit more consistent. Reeds has had some problems with quality control of their product in my experience. It's gotten better lately, but is still a bit lax.
Ginger Altoids I enjoy simply for the convenience.
The calorie count of these chews is about the same as the Reeds chews, and I suspect the ginger content is very similar. I don't think it's necessary to scrutinize the labeling to realize that these are a ginger-flavored product, not real ginger.
They do help relieve nausea, and I'm not going to make any medical claims, but I eat a few of these every day, and my joint pain from osteoarthritis has all but disappeared. YMMV.
If you want to sample these before buying this rather sizable order of chews, Trader Joes does carry single bags. Buy one there, then come back and buy 12 boxes here.
MissKittyfromGA : Delicious but overpriced!
I absolutely love this candy. The flavor is great. However, the price for these two tiny bags for nearly $10.00 is absolutely ridiculous. My hands are small so you can see what size this bag is. (Only 14 pieces in this bag.) Think I'll go back to the Chimes brand. They shipped quickly and were well packaged.
S. Roe : Didn’t love these for nausea in pregnancy
I like ginger flavor a lot typically but these were a bit strong for my sensitive pregnant taste buds. Also if you happen to vomit after eating these it’s quite spicy and uncomfortable. The chew texture is sticky and tacky, so not very pleasurable to eat. Had heard good things about them for pregnant women but they didn’t help me at all.
Mr. Amusing : Tasty, but not the winner of my personal taste test. Sticky, too.
I love ginger. Pretty much any form is good. Recently I bought three different brands of ginger candy, including Chimes and this one. I don't think the Gin Gins were more "gingery" than the Chimes, but they were definitely were more likely to stick to my teeth. Because they are stickier, they are also a little harder to unwrap. But since the pieces are a bit bigger, it's slightly easier to open them than the Chimes.
All in all I've re-ordered Chimes, rather than these. The other ginger product I bought was candied ginger. It was ok, but a little woody. By contrast I've got Organic Mariani Crystalized Fiji Ginger sitting on my desk right now. It's really good, not "woody" but I find it a bit too sweet.

These are nice but much to spicy for me. If you like hot ginger, they are perfect.

River : Does the job and then some
These things are amazing. They are a staple in my household now. My wife is prone to nausea and we keep these at the ready for her. They do exactly what they should and also very tasty and perfect amount of spice, I would say even for people that don’t handle spice well. You are going to feel better
Nanette Thomas : Good candy, but don’t order in the heat!
These are my favorite candies, but they had melted and were stuck in each packet. It is nearly impossible to get them out of their individual wrappings.
TRE : Great for stomach pains. Easy for travel.
Sticky due to a little melt. Great for stomachaches. Strong taste but good. Easy to take with you traveling.
Darkmane : Make sure you're okay with ginger before you buy this.
My dear husband bought this for me thinking it might help.
I can understand why it has great reviews, if you like or don't mind the taste of ginger you might find it helpful.
But I do not like the taste nor smell of it on normal days so during the first trimester I didn't even want to look at this candy because it made me want to vomit.
My SIL raves about how it worked for her, but for me it didn't. I had very very bad morning sickness and I couldn't keep this down either.
KT : Perfect for motion sickness!
These candies are little lifesavers for me when I'm suffering from motion sickness or nausea. I take them with me on road trips, flights, boat rides, etc. I also have given them to pregnant friends who say it helps with morning sickness.
They taste like ginger snaps and are chewy. They come individually wrapped, which makes it easy to grab on the go.
