Answer: Certain candy stores sell this for almost double the price. Not every store has them.

Answer: I have found that there aren't many stores that sell this unique tasting candy. I've found them in vintage candy stores in a few different states I've visited. Your best bet would be to goggle vintage candy stores in your area and see what happens.

Answer: They tend to have a little bit of a "soap taste", but not overwhelming. They have a unique taste that you either love or can't stand.

Answer: Violet is a bit of an acquired taste, and if you don't have that taste it just does taste like soap. I love floral flavors, but most people that don't think they taste like soap.

Answer: They're not Mint flavored. They have an almost indescribable albeit delicious flavor. If real violets had a flavor, this would be it... beautifully scented and refreshing. An acquired taste that's better than your average mint. My opinion.

I took a chance, despite claims as mints being broken or didn’t taste the same. My order came quickly, all items intact. I haven’t had these since the 60’s. When I first tasted one I thought the flavor wasn’t quite as strong but I’m wrong. The more I tried the better they tasted. The smell is wonderful

My grandmother used to give us these mints ages ago. I found some at a candy shop in Vegas (of course) and my friend recommended that I search for them on Amazon. Alas, I found them and didn't hesitate to order a whole box! These candies taste great and are the perfect texture. They just remind me of my grandma. I recommend these to anyone but some of my friends kids don't quite care for the flavor. They're not as sweet as hard candy (It's a pressed powder candy) and I'm thinking they may be an acquired taste. I love them and everyone I've personally given them to loved them.

If you want a fresh pack of Violets I suggest you go straight to C. Howard and order from them where there should be a quick turnover of supply. These were obviously old and stale, who knows how long this company had them in stock. A fresh pack of Violets should be soft when bitten into, with a burst of flavor. These were brittle with no taste, seemed like bitting into plastic. Never again.....ruined great memories of a great candy.

I got hooked on these as a child when my mother treated me to some. She called them breath savers...and they do give your breath a lovely floral smell. The most wonderful candies ever! I've shared them with tons of friends and everyone else loves them too. Wonderful for fresh breath, without smelling like a mint. It's a subtle and very pleasant perfume-y smell that everyone who doesn't know says, "What is that that I smell? It's so nice..." Both of my grandmothers loved violets, and gave us these candies as a special treat when we were kids. One raised African types and the other raised fields of the wild kind which had little sacks of juice just below the flower petals. As kids we ate the flowers constantly. Mmmmmnn! Yes! Great find. I was so happy to see one of my old favorites still available for sale. The best value seemed to be the 24 pack. As many people say you either love these or hate them. I've always loved these despite that people say they taste like soap or smell like perfume. Other reviewers mentioned they seemed to be softer than they remembered. I do live in Florida and perhaps it could be the humidity, but to me these are such a great treat. In either case apparently these are still being made as my box arrived with a March 13, 2019 expiration date! They will be gone way before that!

When delivered there were some that were broken and there was a ton of loose powder in the packaging, I have had these in the past and loved them. However, today as I was so excited to try one... I was so let down. The smell was floral and I couldn't wait but... upon tasting it... I was reminded of having my mouth washed with soap. Total disappointment. Violet mints. It sounds like a confection from a dusty Victorian melodrama, and it probably is. However, for some reason, I'm kind of addicted to these mints. My absolute favorite candy of all time. Love the violet candies, they taste like Mr. Bubble smells and idk if people will take that as a good thing or not but I know as a kid I ALWAYS wished Mr. Bubble was edible. This would make a wonderful flavor for ice cream or cake. It is strange though I've found most people either love or hate this candy, no middle ground. Just read Leonora Carrington's THE HEARING TRUMPET and in it are characters who imbibe upon some Violet candies. Since we located the book from Amazon, why not search for some Violet candies too? Sweet but not too, small thin squares with an edge. Soft chalk type candy. Perfect melt in mouth if you can resist chomping. The smell is STRONGER than the flavor, which is there, but mild. Enjoy!

Imagine eating a stale, unflavored Tums antacid while shoving one of grandma's special, tiny "guest" soaps, shaped like a flower and coated in dust, right up your nose. That's the flavor. Oh, and a chunk of the pink soap flower becomes lodged in your sinus cavity for hours after.
The texture, although similar to a vintage Tums found in the bottom of your mom's purse, is closer to crunching on a piece of asbestos floor tile.
I am sure some people appreciate floral flavors, today I learned that I do not.

And they seemed stale. The texture was off.
