Answer: I waited to answer this question because I had another box on order. It arrived today. The expiration date is Jan. 21, 2018. I have also had boxes of these that seemed harder than Swedish Fish usually are, although they were not too close to their expiration date. Nobody else in my office seemed to mind though ... they disappeared fast! This new box, however, is nice and soft so I guess they can be inconsistent.
Answer: The expiration date is acceptable, however, they are not chewy like regular Swedish fish. They are smaller and hard. I gave mine away and the receiver enjoyed them. I would not recommend them.

We call this our Neverending box of Swedish Fish. Bought these for Halloween. We didnt get many kids visiting so we have been eating them. Its now Dec 1 and we still have a quarter of the box left. Love Swedish fish, but these were ordered as stocking suffers for quite a few people... Each individually packaged treat was hard as if old, and about 9 of of every 10 packages have broken fish inside of them, split once if not twice. This reveals what I can only assume is old product. An embarrassing discovery after people started opening them to eat.

These lack the soft chewy texture of Swedish fish. They have a distinctly stale taste and a hard texture that sticks to your teeth. Quality control issue since expiration date is far off. Very disappointing.

Ill start off by saying that these are individually wrapped if you didn't read the title clearly (because I didn't). But I actually found to enjoy that fact. The wrappers were super easy to open and it made it last even longer. I requested a return for the first box I purchased but Amazon offered to replace the original which I accepted. The second box of Swedish Fish came as hard as the first. The y are not soft and chewy but they are hard and chewy. I have ordered these before and had no problem. I guess the supplier has a surplus of older ones on hand.

These are individually wrapped so you can leave them around in a bowl especially during cold and flu season and people are not scared to eat them people I give up a box to the sales people when they meet their goals and they seem to love the idea. These are good and you will enjoy them and maybe the plastic will slow you down a bit sort of like a speedbump :-)

This product is good and fresh. This is my third box I purchased. I just notice they went up six dollars. I guess I have to find another place to purchase from.

These are my favorite. With them being individually packaged it's easy to grab a handful throw them in my purse and have them wherever I go and they stay fresh.

These were very hard/chewy and a bit stale. Very disappointing. I ordered for employee gifts but did not give to them as they were not good. :(

I was disappointed in the texture of these, and other people in my office agreed. I thought they'd be a nice change but, although they hadn't passed their freshness date, they are definitely drier and chewier than they should be. When this candy is fresh it's quite soft, but these are tough. Flavor is still good, but they are not disappearing at the rate that candy on my desk usually does. Don't plan to buy again for this reason.

I have been obsessed with Swedish Fish recently, despite my otherwise decently healthy diet. I love Swedish Fish.
So when this big box of Swedish Fish arrived, I was really excited. I liked the idea of individually wrapped candy, to slow myself down from eating waay too many. Also, I figured it would be smart to have the alternative option of giving a bunch away on Halloween.
This box is bigger than my head. So of course, I had to take selfies of myself next to it. It is pretty absurd, but in an awesome way.
These are the larger red Swedish Fish.
The major problem with this particular product order is that every single candy in the box is hardened, stale, and obviously old.
I can still eat it, but it's very far from being fresh, soft and juicy, like other packages of this candy.
I have to bite down hard on a stiffened piece, and pull the rest away with my fingers. The thing is, it's not the easiest thing to do. It takes some effort to pull apart the piece. It feels like I'm eating a piece of tough beef jerky. Except it tastes much sweeter.
When I bend the Fish into a curved shape, the outside crackles apart like cracks in concrete.
Most Swedish Fish bend freely and easily, because they are soft and malleable.
That is what makes them fun to eat. They are supposed to be very soft, juicy and chewy.
But what I received is NOT soft at all. I try not to think about what year this box must have been packed. I'm guessing this candy is over 2 or 3 years old.
These Swedish Fish are COMPLETELY ENCLOSED in an UNOPENED box, and INDIVIDUALLY packaged inside SEALED plastic!!
I know for a FACT that they do NOT go THAT stale within just a year.
In the past, I've had unwrapped Swedish Fish in an opened, but rubber-banded bag for a whole year, due to overly sweet foods becoming unappealing to me. I forgot about the bag, but when I pulled it out, I was about to toss it in the trash, but I decided to try one first. It was certainly edible, chewy, and still pretty soft. I was happy to eat the rest in the bag.
I go through stages of disliking sweets, like desserts and chocolate. I know they aren't healthy at all. Quite the opposite.
But recently, I've been gobbling up WAY too many Swedish Fish for some reason.
So I've purchased and eaten many different bags of them from supermarkets and pharmacy/convenient stores like Rite-Aid and CVS. NONE of them are ever stale, hardened, crackling apart, or anything else abnormal.
☆☆☆☆☆So Swedish Fish people, if your company is listening, I am very disappointed!!
I even feel bad about the idea of giving these out to the kids for Halloween! I have a conscience!!
PLEASE GIVE ME AN UNSTALE BOX OF SWEDISH FISH! That is what I paid for, and I think I deserve exactly that. But I'm now stuck with a huge box of stale, hard, and tough meat. Oh wait, I meant Swedish Fish....

TO ANYONE THINKING OF BUYING THIS BOX OF SWEDISH FISH, JUST KNOW THAT YOU'VE BEEN WARNED. You have a very good chance of getting a massive amount of super stale candy.
Also, the flap on the box rips easily, so you must open it with great care. I ripped part of one side, even while opening it slowly and carefully. Not the best design. A kid would undoubtedly rip that flap apart.
Oh well. I guess I'm stuck with these for now.

If they say it was, I just cannot believe that. There is no way this box was packaged in 2016.

The Swedish Fish came individually wrapped in the box shown in the photo on Amazon. I’m very surprised they were on the dry side. I had just purchased another group of candy that was mixed & had Swedish Fish. They were soft, chewy, fresh. The flavor is ok, but I didn’t enjoy them like the fresher mix. I would recommend this candy but only if you don’t mind old dry candy.

These are like hard candy instead of “soft and chewy”. I can’t find an expiration but they have to be well past. I bought these for my daughter’s valentine party and birthday party but I can’t give these out. If they weren’t so cheap, I’d be returning!

Swedish fish are a favorite. The ones that can actually be enjoyed without major dental work to simply eat one and a strong arm to try to pull these fish in half... Broken tooth, pulled muscle. Find your Wallet your gonna hurt something... The candies I was sent are not soft and chewy. The box I received are hard and cold tar type of consistity. Your first chew is now a struggle to get this red tear from your teeth. You'll be there awhile. Chewing seemed to make it worse. I just waited 10 minutes for the sugar to warm up and slowly melt away. This isn't the way we want to enjoy our fish. Total disappointment.

These came so fresh! I bought these to use for my daughters mermaid theme bday party and people were eating them by the handfuls and kept commenting how "fresh" they tasted. Im a big fan of Swedish fish and have always just gotten them from the corner store and you truly can taste the difference with these lol. The box is huge and it looks just like the store display ones so it would look so nice if yourr throwing a festival or candy land theme party as well

One of my doctors LOVES Swedish Fish, so for Christmas I purchased this box of individually wrapped Swedish Fish Gummy candy, an old-fashioned glass fishbowl, and some chalkboard paint.
I painted lil "thought" bubbles from the top of the bowl leading to a large 'bubble' which read: Dr. ___'s Fish...Do NOT Touch! lol.
Needless to say, he and his office staff, loved it! I was proud because it was a personal, unique, creative and affordable gift idea. :)

Fish should be soft and pliable and these are not...not even remotely. I tried one and I had to actually pull it off my teeth with my fingers (I have teeth not dentures...). I tried a second one and same thing: fish stuck to upper and lower teeth and I actually could not pull my jaws apart to chew. I wish I were exaggerating but I'm not. Very disappointing. I requested a refund.

I bought these for my sister who is basically a cat. They are individually wrapped, so that's a big plus. That way you can grab a bunch and stick them in your pocket without worrying about lint and whatnot. Plus the wrappers keep you from eating too many at a time. Also, my dog actually tore through the box. So I'm glad they were individually wrapped because they got everywhere. So yeah I'm very satisfied.

Each individually packaged treat was hard as if old, and about 9 of of every 10 packages have broken fish inside of them, split once if not twice. This reveals what I can only assume is old product. An embarrassing discovery after people started opening them to eat.

You would think that being individually wrapped, the Swedish fish would stay soft and fresh. Half of the Swedish fish I've tried thus far have been very hard and stale. Don't buy.

So far the boxes I have received have been really fresh, and in good condition. The individual wrappers are great, although, let's get serious, no one ever just eats one!
The students like them so much I've had kids sneak into my office and steal fish from the box on my desk and leave my wallet alone in my purse. That's a whole other story.
I'd recommend these to anyone; there really isn't a time or place where these wouldn't be appropriate. They make the day a little better for everyone.

These “fish” are different from those I’ve had in that they are significantly thinner. It takes 3 or 4 of these fish stacked on one another to match those fish I’ve had in the past.
