CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIES

Ingredients

2 cups Semi-Sweet Chocolate Baking Chips (contains milk)
1 cup butter or margarine, softened
3/4 cup sugar
3/4 cup brown sugar, packed
2 large eggs
2 teaspoons vanilla
2 1/4 cups unsifted flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup walnuts or pecans, chopped (optional)

Directions

1. Heat oven to 375ºF.

2. Stir flour with baking soda and salt; set aside.

3. In large mixing bowl, beat butter with sugar and brown sugar at medium speed until creamy and lightened in color.

4. Add eggs and vanilla, one at a time. Mix on low speed until incorporated.

5. Gradually blend dry mixture into creamed mixture. Stir in nuts and chocolate chips.

6. Drop by tablespoon onto ungreased cookie sheets.

7. Bake for 9 to 11 minutes or until golden brown.

Note: The 2 cups of Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips can be substituted with any variety of chip flavor (i.e.- Milk Chocolate Chips, 60% Cacao Bittersweet Chocolate Chips, etc.)

Answer: Yes. They are darker so will balance the sweetness of the cookie. I use them to top marshmallows when I make them at Christmas. Try adding some peppermint extract for a chocolate mint Oreo. Used to be a commercially made chocolate covered Oreo called Mystic Mints. Loved them.

Answer: As long as you're using a recipe that uses plain chocolate, and not dipping chocolate it should be fine. I've used them to make chocolate almond cherry clusters and they tasted great.

Answer: Yes--these are the same chocolate as their 60% baking bar. They are my go-to for dipping and tempering. The chips are themselves tempered, so you can use them as seed chocolate if you temper that way (i.e. melting ~2/3 of your chocolate then stirring in unmelted).

how is this packedged so that it will arrive in good condition? how is it protected from melting/temperature changes during delivery?

Answer: They pack cold packs in with the package/s of chocolate. I had a delivery during a very bad heatwave last year when they were in a boiling mail truck, and the bottoms of some of the 12 oz packages were melted a bit. Other than that, everything was fine. What I am annoyed with is that recent packages that I have ordered AND purchased in BJs have large chips, not the standard Nestle-size chips. This becomes a problem in that they are more like "chunks" rather than chips and change the consistency of recipes I make.

Answer: We recommend placing your order during the cooler months, rather than the peak of the summer. We ship this item wrapped in a padded envelope and then placed inside a foil/padded envelope specially designed to protect the product during transit from temperature extremes. We also ship via priority mail so that delivery is within 4 business days or less. If the temperature is above 80 degrees, we will also add food-safe gel kool packs to further protect the product.

Answer: I don't know what is done to protect it. I have ordered this product 3 times and every time it was in mint condition. No melting and just like bought from the store.

Answer: Don't want him so he got this but I do remember all six bags were in a single larger bag. I purchased it back in December so temperature was not an issue, also if you're living in a hot state I don't think you have much to worry about right now. If you want to make sure it doesn't melt go with the candy warehouse, they check the temperatures all along the shipping route to make sure it won't melt.

Answer: These chips are the very best and I am sure that they would make a delicious hot drink...You will just have to experiment with how many chips

Answer: I make hot chocolate with these all the time. I put milk in saucepan then chips. I heat on med to low. I whisk throughout cooking to get chips to melt, to blend well in the milk and so they do not stay on the bottom. Stop just before boiling (though boiling a bit does not seem to hurt the hot chocolate). I suppose if you like it sweeter you could add sugar, but I have never found it necessary.

Answer: I use them for hot chocolate mixed with powdered swiss miss. You have to heat the water in microwave or use boiling water to melt the chips.

I got these for baking but husband appropriated all FIVE bags and they disappeared into his mouth. He's cutting down his sugar and looking for sweet things and these items are lower in sugar than Hershey's chocolate plus taste a whole lot better. Very good product and at lower price than specialty chocolates. For my daily "fix" I eat a handful of these chips. Ghirardelli 60% has the perfect balance of dark with just the right amount of sweet. The recipe on the package makes great candy, use coconut oil instead of vegetable oil and mix in a generous amount of pecan pieces. MY APOLOGIES, I was using the candy recipe on the 3 lb. package. I've purchased the larger packages until I ordered these smaller packages which have the recipe for "cookies". Go to Ghirardelli web site for the candy ingredients. It's simple---chips and oil. Just add nuts or dried fruit to your taste

I have ordered these chocolate chips a few times now. One time they came slightly melted. We refrigerated them and then chopped up the globs of chocolate on this batch, and the cookies tasted and looked as good as ever.

I received another order today in Los Angeles at 11:00 in the morning on a sunny front porch. The chips were well insulated and included two still partially frozen bricks of ice covered in a leakproof material. The chips were cold, and there was still ice in the box. The chips arrived on a day when the temperature is predicted to rise 99 degrees. These are the best baking chips I have tried, and Amazon has done a good job in figuring out how to send them.

I buy these chocolate chips very, very regularly from BJs, so I am very familiar with how they taste when they are fresh. Ordered 6 of the 10 oz. packs. They arrived quickly. They were decent--not bad, but not nearly as good as when I buy them at BJs and they are particularly fresh. To be fair, when I buy them from BJs they are excellent about 3/5 of the time, and about 2/5 of the time they are like this--ok/fine. (And when I buy them from BJs I buy the 3-pound bag--maybe that thicker bag keeps them fresher? Didn't order the 3-pound bag on Amazon.)

I use lots of chocolate in baking and dark chocolate my favorite almost healthy snack. These bittersweet chips taste good. Don't think I've ever eaten a chocolate chip that I simply liked the taste. These are delicious and are now my tiny snack for my chocolate fix as well as using them for all baking with chocolate.

I like the real vanilla instead of artificial vanillin. I just wish the cocoa content was more than 60%. Ghirardelli can do better than that. That is why I'm giving 4 stars instead of 5.
